One of the biggest mistakes we made after acquiring Alarm Masters was trying to optimize too quickly. We wanted to step out of operations, hire people, and let them run. Looking back, we should have spent more time in the business before trying to work on the business.
That lesson showed up everywhere.
We hired some people because they were affordable instead of exceptional. We brought on our first salesperson before we had a documented sales process. We tested software that turned out to be the wrong fit. None of those decisions were catastrophic, but each one taught us something that shaped how we operate today.

The biggest shift came when we stopped asking, "What's the cheapest way to solve this?" and started asking, "Who is the best person for this role?"
Great talent changes everything. The right people make better decisions, improve the people around them, and create momentum that average hires simply can't. We've seen it firsthand.
We also learned that systems matter more than tools. Moving to cloud-based software, organizing our data, and documenting our processes didn't instantly transform the business. They gave us visibility. And visibility leads to better decisions.
By the end of our first full calendar year, those lessons started paying off. We grew revenue by 60%, broke our largest project record three separate times, and built the foundation for the growth we've experienced since.
If there's one takeaway from this episode, it's this:
Don't rush to delegate. Don't settle on talent. And don't expect your first plan to be your best one.
